Bar Brief: American Whiskey

The name of an American whiskey bar doesn't get more straightforward. But is it AMERICA enough? Is it WHISKEY enough? Read on.

  • Location: Midtown West, Manhattan
  • Designation: whisky & cocktail bar
  • Whisky selection >60, American whiskies so many of them
  • Average prices for Manhattan
All of the American Whiskies!
There are whisky bars that are made for people who drink scotch. Then, there's American Whiskey, which is made in & for America. It's got animal heads on the wall. Everything is made of wood. There are no leather captain's chairs here, set about for mulling over serious matters. This is a loud, social sports bar. The huge TVs, though, are up high so that you don't have to watch if you'd rather talk (loudly) - a nice touch.

Dead animals are as America as it gets.
The American whiskey selection is deep and varied (there's a decent Scotch selection, too). Prices are decent for Manhattan. Solid service and good atmosphere round out the experience.

Solid.
This is a place to drink whisky, but don't think that this is a place for quiet reflection. Come for AMERICA.

Rating: recommend x3.
"Thumbs up for America. This place was loud... There were sports on the TV and people shouting. I recall the whiskey menu being a staggering 10+ pages long which is awesome and I would definitely come back, but more likely for shots and such."  - Evan
"Yes. All of the yes. Awesome extensive collection, bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, and she gave us a dropper of water to go with our drams.  A nice touch that made me wish it had been our first stop instead of our last."  - Greg
"Thoughtful selection, design, and atmosphere." - Quinn
