Bar Brief: two8two

Two8two is set up shotgun style, the front end housing a bar that flows into a seating area for diners. Don't let the positioning fool you - this is a burger joint first, bar second. (Third?)

Why did we get forks?
  • Location: Cobble Hill, Brooklyn
  • Designation: burger joint with a bar
  • Whisky selection >12, about 4/5 American 1/5 Scotch, mostly common
  • Midrange pricing for Brooklyn
A decent dram (some already consumed).

The scent of burgers permeates everything, and the food is clearly the focus. We were left hanging a few times at the bar while staff loitered at the entry of the dining area. Your place at the bar is likely in direct conflict with the bussers' path, too, so watching your back is necessary.

Hallway to a burger joint.

The bar portion of two8two seems like an afterthought, stocked with an odd selection of spirits and beers. There are a pair of televisions playing sports that would indicate they were going for sports bar, but there's a muddle of early 2000s stuff (perfect example: Gorillaz) over the speakers. All that said, the pours are fair and the prices aren't steep.

If you're looking for a great burger, two8two might be the place for you. If you're looking to drink whisky, this is probably not the right place for you.

Rating: recommend x0.
"Boo this place, BOOOOOO. Lame burger joint masquerading as a bar, with a lackadaisical bar staff to boot."  - Evan
"This place was just meh, and I actually wrote that in my notes.  The bartender seemed like he didn't really care if we were there or not.  Would come back to try some food but not where I'm headed if I'm looking to drink."  - Greg
"A quote from a movie occurred to me while we were there: 'I know you can be overwhelmed, and I know you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?'"  - Quinn
