There's a certain way you expect a lower Manhattan whisky bar to look, feel, and cost. Ward III has all three.
- Location: TriBeCa, Manhattan
- Designation: whisky & cocktail bar
- Whisky selection >60, extensive selection of Scotch & American whiskies, common & uncommon brands
- Average to high prices for Manhattan
Delicious, thanks. |
Ward III immediately impresses with the whisky shelves, stacked high on repurposed antique desks. The spirits list brings that selection into even sharper relief. This place is classy and has everything, lit appropriately by candle light. (Actual note from visit: "This place has f---ing everything.")
Sadly for our wallets, this ain't Brooklyn. Yes, you'll get crazy rare expensive whisky, but you'll pay for crazy rare expensive whisky. Luckily you can get half pours for half price Mondays - a good way to taste the otherwise unattainable. The service was attentive and very knowledgeable. Also, limber. You have to be to climb up & get to that top shelf.
Climbing the bar to get to the high end stuff. |

Definitely the place to sip a dram, but be prepared to pay for it.
Rating: recommend x2.5.
"Thumbs up in my heart, thumbs down in my wallet... If your significant other digs whiskey as much as you do, this is a great date spot, quiet and hidden away." - Evan
"I love this place, but stop me if I ever try to go there on payday because trouble. I really dug the decor and atmosphere. The bar itself was awesome, the low couches in the back were inviting and it just generally had a cool old school feel to it. The bartender was very well dressed... Oh-- Pappy 23 Year... 'nuff said." - Greg
"I'd definitely go back, but this is a place for trying the rare stuff and sipping very, very slowly." - Quinn
