Bar Brief: Huckleberry Bar

Huckleberry Bar is a cocktail bar located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  But how's the whiskey?
  • Location: Williamsburg
  • Designation: cocktail bar
  • Whisky selection: 30+ whiskies, about half scotch
  • High prices for Brooklyn

Williamsburg is the hipster spot for all things happening in New York's most sought after borough.   Huckleberry Bar has been slinging cocktails and small plates since 2005. Though its focus is cocktails, they do provide a solid whisky selection at reasonable to high prices.
The narrow entryway is weird, man.
Upon entering Huckleberry Bar, visitors are met with a seating area that looks out to the street and an awkward, obscured view of the bar. Patrons' conversation are forced to elevated volumes by the loud soundtrack of fuzzy discofunk and indie. The decor is reclaimed "vintage" style, with carriage benches for table seating and mason jar hanging light fixtures.
A generous dram over a charmingly reclaimed tabletop.
The friendly staff, inventive menu and look of the place was inviting, but the ambience and odd-layout leave it wanting for improvements. Perhaps a calmer night or a change up of the playlist might accommodate a broader swath of patrons.

Not the best place to quietly sip a dram, but then again, that doesn't seem to be Huckleberry Bar's goal.

Rating: recommend x0.
"Not my crowd, not my scene, I love my whiskey but I'd go elsewhere to find it."  - Evan
"Very dark inside with a cozy atmosphere. It smelled like BACON.  Pretty typical Williamsburg crowd. The whiskey selection was good but tequila is more their wheelhouse and the cocktail list was extensive. Music was loud."     - Greg
"For yupsters. That's halfway between a hipster and a yuppy. Meh."  - Quinn
