Today is World Whisky Day

Happy World Whisky Day everyone!  Oh wait, you didn't know that's a thing?  Well don't worry, we've got you covered...

What is World Whisky Day?  It's exactly what it sounds like: a day to celebrate (drink) whisky, celebrated on the third Saturday of May.  Founded in 2012, events associated with World Whisky Day happen around the world.  In the 3 years since founder Blair Bowman came up with the idea, events have popped up from his native Scotland to the States, to Nigeria, to ANTARCTICA!

Run by drinks magazine, Hot Rum Cow, and with backing from the Scottish Parliament, World Whisky Day is quickly becoming a phenomenon and a celebrated International Holiday.  As Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland put it:

“Whisky is one of Scotland’s most valuable commodities, with visitors from across the globe coming to our shores to experience an authentic Scottish dram. World Whisky Day is a fantastic initiative and a chance for novices and enthusiasts everywhere to raise a glass to Scotland’s national drink."
So be sure to celebrate today by getting yourself a dram!  Locations across the globe are having official events to commemorate WWD and you can find out more about World Whisky Day here: http://worldwhiskyday.com/what-world-whisky-day
